‘We're just BIG beavers really’

Explorer Scouts meet each week to take part in the Unit programme, which is activities chosen by the members based around the framework of the Scout Association balanced programme. As well as weekly meetings the Unit meet for other activities, camps and expeditions at weekends and during the holidays.

The activities Explorer Scouting offers include: Mountaineering, Climbing, Caving, Canoeing, Sailing, Powerboating, Windsurfing, Karting, Mountain biking, Skiing and much more. All the activities are run by skilled leaders who will help you to have the time of your life!

Explorer Scouts is designed to be flexible to fit into the commitments you have at school, college, work and outside scouting. If you have a lot on at school during exams, then Explorer Scouts can take a back seat, and you may miss several meetings. You will still be kept in touch with what’s goin on so that you can join in again when you have more time.

‘Scouting isn’t just about activities for their own sake. We encourage young people to try Explorers climbing Nevissomething new, feel the buzz of the challenge and then reflect on what that means.’

As part of the programme you have the chance to work towards a series of awards. These are designed to give you the opportunity to stretch yourself in a wide range of skills, or specialise in specific areas. The top award is the Queens Scout Award which is widely recognised as one of the top awards young people can achieve.

‘Explorers have so much potential, not to mention they are the future leaders’
